Orthopedic Fellowship-- Round #2

I attempted to post a note last evening, but the Internet was not working well, and I awoke this morning to find the post had been lost somewhere in Cyberspace. Today was interesting in that the two cases we did revolved around orthopedics. The folks here are sure that when I come, the bones start breaking... One of the nurses from the clinic fell on Sunday and arrived Monday to find she had a broken fibula. We waited for the swelling to subside, and then placed her in a cast this morning. Another young girl had a two month old shoulder dislocation that we were able to surgically reduce with some great advice from my US correspondent, Dr. Charlie Petit. I'm fairly sure he would have cringed to see what it took to get the joint reduced, but she should have full use of her shoulder in a few weeks. There are actual general surgical cases on for tomorrow, which means less studying tonight!

Yesterday I had written about how quiet the clinic has been during this visit, compared to last, and have found it is due to Ramadan, hungry month, and bad roadways that make it difficult
for folks to travel to the clinic. The staff here at the clinic decided to threaten a strike as well if demands for a pay raise we're not met. The administration has taken the noble path, and asked folks to come directly to them for friendly discussion. So, we stay tuned, and keep plugging
 away for now.

Despite all of the turmoil, a few patients continue to come, and the Lord is blessing our work. The guys have been helping all over the clinic and in the village, and even got to observe some surgery today. We are thankful for health, cooler weather, friends to get to know better, ways to serve, and even sketchy Internet connections! Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.

  1. Hi, glad you guys are keeping busy. Glad it is going well and you guys are feeling well. That was interesting about Kels movements and what they could mean.

Krae and I had a busy day yesterday. Swim lessons (he is doing really well),lunch at McD's, up to our house to feed deer and look for bugs (outside), to Gma Yoders after getting him and her smoothies (he entertained mom real good), back to pick bl berries w a few scratches, eat supper and watch Olympics, bath and bed. Today I left him in the capable hands of Mr. Copper. Get him back tomorrow. Mar gets home tonight. Been up with Loren to his hunting cabin with some remodeling.

Keep up the good work. You guys are in our prayers continually. Love and miss you all.

    1. Hope you get some rest while Krae is at the Coppers! Sounds like he was fairly busy-- Ryan has nicknamed him Taz(Tasmanian Devil from Bugs bunny). I can just here him now, " Hey Copper! Let's go feed the chickens. Hey Copper! Can we pick some cherries? Hey Copper, can we light a goat on fire? Hey Copper..." had a relaxing evening tonight after a great dinner. Headed to bed with the music of the frogs in the swamp behind the clinic and the rain steadily falling on the roof. Thanks for hangin with Taz. Say HI to him for us.

  2. As you learn about the bush society and the bush devil you will be learning about spiritual warfare in the truest sense of the word. I have some amazing stories to tell you about that subject when you get back. (and I get back in town) Glad you are being observant and continually learning something new. I am praying that God will use this time to draw all three of you closer to Him as you trust him for every day details.
Bartering for things in the market carries over to bartering for wages at the clinic. Your administration is wise and aware of how to go about it. It is hard not to compare their wages to ours, but it is two different worlds. God is bringing you just the patients he wants to allow you to minister to their needs.

  3. The second sermon we heard on Sunday centered around spiritual warfare and many stories in the gospels focusing on God's power over demonic activity. We tend to skip those stories in the States because Satan presents himself in a much more subtle fashion which we tend to accept as a normal part of our lives. Here, Satan is raw and out in the open... But, I have seen the Lord in ways that I never have back home, probably one of the reasons I enjoy being here.

God has been bringing just the right number of patients. It allows us to focus on their physical and emotional needs. Well, a new morning, time to go to work. Thanks for your notes of encouragement.

  4. Travelling is so great and fun but there are so many things to prepare before you can travel to another place. We need to find a good Travel Service to make our vacation or business travel good and safe.
