More Drill, Plates, and Screws...

Hello to all of you faithful bloggers! Had a wonderful day in the OR fixing hernias and also fixed a fibula fracture as well. We found the chuck for the drill which really took all of the fun out of the case because it went so smoothly. Ok, not really, this bone stuff is pretty fun! We are quickly filling all of the inpt beds, which creates an amazing buzz around the Clinic. So far, all of our pts are healing and happy. Modey, the boy with the repaired femur, had a fair amount of pain today, and would certainly benefit from your prayers. We are officially done in the OR this week with elective schedule-- I'm hoping for emergency cases, of course-- but we have many clinic consults to see tomorrow. While I was fixing the fibula fracture today, Jairus, the anesthetist, was witnessing to the pt, who was very interested in what he had to say, and asked many questions. Spinal anesthesia is truly amazing! Thank you all for your prayers. Until the next time... Jeff

  1. Hi, Jeff, your blogging is amazing. God is doing such great stuff over there - both for you and the people there. Maybe Dr. Petite will ask you to assist when you come back. My surgery will probably be around March 20. We are praying for you everyday and for the young man with the serious leg problems (and spiritual problems). That sand stuff sounds awful but breathing with your ears should help. Trip to Maupin for Kels slaughter game (not HC) and then to Con's game. Great game and win with HR. Love and miss you - The Dalles is supposed to be up to 50 today.

    1. I would highly recommend that you have Charlie do your knee on his own, and I will just serve as part of your support team! Thx for traveling all over the Gorge to watch the guys play. I think we hit 80 here today and were an 8 of 10 on the dust scale! We got to turn the air conditioning on in the OR, which is great for us fat, white guys! I have to find some way to incorporate a drill into my practice... I can see why ortho guys love what they do. Funny, I havent seen a single pt with a bad gallbladder here... Not enough French fries in Guinea! Thx for the love and for hanging out on the blog. Say HI to Papa for me. Jeff

  2. it is so much fun reading your blog. You give such a great picture of not only the work being done, but the atmosphere and heart of the people. One more day and your work week is done again...time is quickly passing. Praying for pain relief for Modey and healing too. Praying you will get the rest you need and will stay healthy. Dad and I plan to go to see Connor play at home tomorrow night and will stay until Sat. Looking forward to seeing your gang...been too long...since Christmas. Love you much, Mom.
Singing today..."His name, is strong and mighty tower, His name, is a shelter like no other, His name, let the nations sing it louder, nothing has the power of His name."

  3. That is one of my favorite songs, will be a good one to whistle all day tomorrow. I pick up my iPod every am and find a song I can carry with me all day. Jairus attempted to teach me How Great Thou Art in French today. I finally conceded and whistled while he sang it. It is hard to believe the end of my second week here is drawing to a close. There is so much more I wish to do before I leave. Probably Gods way of encouraging me to come back again. Glad you guys are hangin in The Dalles this weekend. I'm sure the boys and Jen will be glad to see ya. Give em all hugs for me. Love you both, Jeff

  4. Wait a minute, your telling me that he did a spinal anesthest...spelling? and was talking to the guy while you are screwing bolts into a femur?? Really, that is insanely cool and yet...crazy too:)

Anyways, I am having a crazy day in my office, but it can't hold your left jock strap compared to a crazy day in Guinea. Maybe next time you go I can just be a scrub tech and watch and learn. They say if you do enough surgeries, you don't need Med school. Not sure if that is true or not. Love you brother

Oh hey, just saw your wife, she just bought 10 pair of glasses and told me she was buying a new car too. She is just living it up while your gone. She said something about you getting paid double for your work in Guinea. Wow, that is great:) Hope you enjoy the Escalade when you get back.

    Love you Bro

  5. The spinal anesthetic was done for the fibula repair today, but it was kind of cool, truly a captive audience. I'm sure you could scrub, I mean seriously, I'm doing ortho! You might wanna think about putting down the Diet Mt Dew and going decaf for the rest of the day--I think you're gonna explode! Funny, I just Skyped Jen a few hrs ago... No mention of the 10 prs of glasses... Or the Escalade...Hmmm. That's the last time I leave the country and ask you to look in on my family! I gotta get rid of this jockstrap and get some rest. God's Peace, Matty
